Snow Queen

December 9, 2016

Snow Queen

Well, the cold snap has finally happened where I live, and it has been a dreaded time indeed. I’ve always loved the heat of Summer. Every year it gets more and more difficult to bear these subzero temps.

So, then why did I decide to make a wintery post? I only did it because I saw this gorgeous dress by Junbug at this round of Uber and immediately envisioned the dress as a majestic, snow queen, ensemble.

This is the first time I have bought anything by Junbug, but I’ve admired the brand for awhile. If you love beautiful dresses, definitely check Junbug out!

Get A Little Exotic

November 23, 2016

A little exotic in Zaara!

One summer during my early college days, I was introduced to the world of Bollywood. I have always thought the culture of Southeast Asia was beautiful and enchanting in many ways, and through college I had become friends with a number of other students from that region of the world. They taught me more about their traditions, music, and food, thus feeding my admiration for that part of the world.

Needless to say, Bollywood films were uncharted territory for me (being a rural gal from the Midwest of the US and all), but when Turner Classic Movies ran a weekly movie night for a month that summer, I kind of got hooked. I was excited beyond belief! I’m ashamed to admit, my only taste of an Indian based film at that point was Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love with Indira Varma who now plays Ellaria Sand on Game of Thrones. An indie film called Monsoon Wedding, was also a film I had seen (much better than the previous movie I might add).

If you don’t know what Bollywood is, it’s the movie industry in India. The movies are typically a little longer than most, and feature singing and dancing (and good looking men)!

Anyway, the first real Bollywood movie I ever saw was called Rangeela. The film itself wasn’t the most memorable, but the name was–I believe it means ‘full of color’. Then I remember seeing Diwali Dulhania Le Jayenge with Shah Rukh Khan. I really enjoyed that one! But, I think the one I liked best out of those I first saw was Dil Chahta Hai. There were three good looking men instead of one!

Ok, that wasn’t the real reason. I loved the music, and the story was pretty good.

I haven’t watched many Bollywood movies in the last five years or so, mainly because I don’t understand more than a few words of Hindi, and I have to be in the right mood to read subtitles for three hours. Watching them though, always reminds me of my friends and the passion that I have for learning about life in other countries.

This outfit designed by Zaara, currently at Collabor88 reminded me of a song and dance number from the movie Asoka, Aa Tayar Hoja. I’m not sure why, but when I put it on the song jumped into my head!

So, I dedicate this post to fellow Bollywood fans!
